ACTOR is being developed as an open learned society.
Membership is open to everyone with a scholarly interest in conspiracy theories and related phenomena.

The association aims to provide a platform for researchers from different disciplines, institutional backgrounds, and career stages. ACTOR seeks to foster academic exchange, collaboration, and critical discussion, and to support the development of conspiracy theory studies as a coherent field of inquiry.

ACTOR will have a chairperson and a Steering Committee initially composed of five members to administer and develop the association. Any member can be a candidate for chairmanship and for the Steering Council, both of which should be elected every four years.

In addition to the chair and the Steering Committee members will tentatively be grouped around working groups. There will be workshops to develop such working groups thematically open to every member and potential new member. In the long run, the five members of the Steering Committee should be replaced by a representative of each Thematic Working Group.

Finally, we propose that along with the elected, rotating members of the Steering Committee and the association Chair, there will be a more permanent Advisory Board, composed of five senior figures in the field to offer institutional and academic guidance.
